Welder/Fabricator

We are looking for an experienced TIG welder/Fabricator to work within our Fabrication Factory.

The ideal applicant would have knowledge and experience of general sheet metal processes to support our requirement to:

  • Accurately TIG weld stainless and mild steel as well as aluminium to a very high standard while working to engineering drawings.
  • You must have experience of welding box section frames and assemblies to a high standard within tight tolerances.
  • Ensuring all parts manufactured conform to the issued drawing and work instructions.
  • Ensuring all tasks are completed within the budgeted hours allocated.
  • Involvement in developing new products in conjunction with our customer requirements for light to medium fabrications and be able to fabricate their own jigs and fixtures where applicable.
  • General Sheet Metal fabrication and finishing skills to support your role as a Welder/Fabricator.

About You

  • You will have a proven welding ability with a good eye for detail.
  • As we hold BSI accreditation to aerospace standard (AS 9100) you must be competent at filling in paperwork and have the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to interpret and follow customer drawings.
  • Ability to work accurately and to a high standard.
  • Have experience of working in a manufacturing or similar environment.
  • Possess a team working ethic with good communication skills.

Quality Engineer – 12-month Fixed Term Contract

Due to the high volume of new motorsport work coming through, we are looking for a skilled Quality Engineer to join our business unit at mainly at ShearXL, initially for a 12 month contract with the possibility of an extension or permanent role being offered.

The ideal candidate should have proven Quality experience in a similar production environment.

You will be able to read and understand complex drawings and have a good eye for detail.

Must work well within a team and have good problem-solving ideas.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe working practices at all times in accordance with the Health and Safety policy of the company.
  • To promote a culture of customer focus throughout the organisation.
  • Establish and maintain quality requirements with customers.
  • Liaise with customers on resolution and corrective action implementation of quality issues.
  • Dealing with customer returns / reworks.
  • Ensuring production staff are aware of any Up Issues and that all documentation reflects the latest issue number.
  • Processing any SDNRs (Supplier Deviation Notification Requests).
  • Creating and maintaining inspection sheets for all part numbers produces
  • Conduct supplier quality audits and report audit findings
  • Producing quality documents as required by customer specific contracts including PSW, Certificate/Declaration of Conformity, Control Plans and statistical analysis supporting Process Capability.
  • In conjunction with manufacturing staff, develop and review processes and assess effectiveness in achieving product realisation.
  • Perform product audits against customer and statutory requirements and providing internal training in this activity.
  • Maintaining a visible product traceability record system compatible with the AS9100 Quality Management System.
  • Working with manufacturing departments to proactively resolve quality issues.
  • Working with production department supervisors and external suppliers to establish root cause of quality concerns. Ensuring robust corrective and preventative actions are implemented to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Monitoring the quality of sub-contract product and liaising with suppliers when required.
  • Directly managing the calibration of measuring equipment and maintaining a full equipment list in support of this activity.
  • Tracking the resolution of customer non-conformances through root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensuring any known quality issues are recorded on works orders.
  • Risk assessment using FMEA and application of SPC techniques including gauge R&R to assist in developing a Process Capability system.
  • Assist with inspection of completed components using both CMM and Manual methods.
  • Delivering quality training to staff as required.
  • Assist manufacturing in the deployment and maintenance of 5S workplace organisation.
  • Supporting other functions within the Quality Assurance Department as and when required.
  • Carry out any other general duties to assist in the smooth running of the company.

Key Skills Required:

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Use of measuring equipment including gauges, handheld equipment, CMM and other metrology devices.
  • Basic computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel etc.
  • Ability to liaise with manufacturing teams to resolve quality issues.
  • To work with suppliers to maintain and develop the quality of sub-contract product and services.
  • Production of FMEA reports and control plans.
  • 8D problem solving and structured root cause analysis.
  • To be able to develop work instructions and visual standards.
  • The use and understanding of the internal Non-Conformance Reporting (NCR) system and MIE Trak.

Account Manager – Part-time – approx. 28 hours/week (over 4 days – Monday-Thursday) for approx. 12 month fixed term contract

We have an immediate requirement for an enthusiastic and highly organised person to join our small, dynamic Sales Team as an Account Manager, initially for a 12-month contract with the possibility of an extension or permanent role being offered.

Strong administration skills are essential along with excellent customer service and an ability to build a quick rapport with customers. Using your initiative and being responsible for your workload is an important part of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Key Account Management – serve as a lead point of contact for all customer account management matters, including loading customer orders to our MRP system
  • Ensuring parts are on track with production
  • Creating returns paperwork
  • Loading new enquiries and submitting quotes
  • Hosting and visiting customers

CNC Turner – Programmer/Setter

We need a highly skilled CNC Turner to programme, set and run CNC machines with Fanuc based control system. The successful applicants should have served an apprenticeship or gained a high level of experience in machining.

For this particular section of our Turning department you will need experience of some if not all of the following types of machines; Driven Tool, Chuck and Bar.

You must be able to work to tight tolerances and be responsible for the quality of your own work.

You must be able to read and understand complex drawings and have a good eye for detail.

The ability to work well within a team and have good problem-solving ideas is also essential.

Although you will be working as part of a team you will need to work on your own initiative, with minimal supervision.

Powder Coat Painter – late shift

Due to an increase in demand Shearline are looking for an additional Powder Coat Painter.

Applications are welcome from semi or skilled people or those who have previously been employed as a wet painter as full training will be given.

Ideally, we would like the successful applicant to work over 4 days per week (Monday – Thursday) from 15:00 hrs every day.  However, there can be some flexibility on this start time, and we are happy to consider either full-time (37.5 hours/week) or part-time applications.    Initially you would have to start working on our day shift for training to be carried out.

As a Powder Coat Painter, you will need to perform the following tasks to achieve a high degree of finish to meet our customer’s quality requirements:

  • Painting
  • Silk screening
  • Masking
  • Unmasking
  • Cleaning parts pre paint
  • Cleaning parts post paint
  • Load and unload parts
  • Tapping holes
  • Wrapping & packing

You will also be required to carry out other duties in the Fabrication and Assembly area, when time allows.

In order to be successful in this role you must have the following attributes:

  • Ability to cope with repetitive work.
  • A flexible attitude to work in order to satisfy client demand.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain focus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Based on the Cambridgeshire Business Park, in Ely, we are a well-established, sub-contract Engineering Company supplying components to the aerospace, automotive, medical and hi-tech industries.

This is an exciting opportunity in conjunction with a local College to complete an Apprenticeship in Engineering, which will give you a good basis for building your future career.
